I haven’t yet dug into all of the details, but Stephen Cornish is in the process of publishing accurate, insightful reviews of all of the Windows 10 a

That’s definitely the missing link. Can’t wait 🙂

I kept 7 of the apps in his list. The rest of that junk was eradicated using the powershell nuclear option.

Or, you can simply use CCleaner and remove even built-in Ms Store Apps. Just don’t remove the Store App itself!

Decent review format, with a fairly thorough real-world review (using older machine, etc.) of features good and bad. However, it lacks details about what lives on the hard drive/device, what is sand-boxed, and what is cloud-based. With so many apps and programs looking to aggregate my contact lists and habits, I will probably stay away from most and probably Windows 10. I mean really, social solitare with achievements? That is an oxymoron! I will probably test Windows 10 after the free period expires, but will definitely NOT let it have any access to the rest of the network.

@rc primak Very good advice, do not remove Store App itself. I did it few times for testing and the only way I could get it back was to copy files over from a known good installation and fiddle with PowerShell to fix everything back including dependencies on .NET Framework apps. Even the information published in different places on the Internet in regards to using PowerShell for this purpose is inaccurate or obsolete being accurate in many situations only for Windows 8.1.
If the Store App is working, it may take a while but it would eventually heal every other damaged app.

Why not remove the Store App? There’s nothing in the store that’s worth having, nor the likelihood of the Universal Windows Platform environment breeding one any time soon.

Microsoft has to be taught a lesson that crap isn’t king.

The only way to do that is to have their store not only fail, but spectacularly fail.

They’re not getting another penny from me in the foreseeable future.

Noel, then why using Windows 10 if not for trying to make the Universal Apps working and if they are proved to be useless, then making an informed decision.
Without the Store App and the rest of the suite, Windows 10 is just Windows 7 with few cosmetic changes.

      Yes. Changes for the worse.

I’m NOT using it. To be more accurate, I’m not RELYING on it to be the OS that integrates my work. I only test it in virtual machines. That way my decisions are based on facts.

And your question is very apropos…

      Why indeed use Windows 10?

There is no good reason, currently.
