When I log onto the internet, the dial up icon shows up in the system tray, letting me know I’m connected. My husband’s computer, Win 98, doesn’t show the icon in the system tray, even though he IS connected to the internet. What determines what is to be displayed in the system tray? How do we change that?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerMarch 24, 2001 at 3:23 pm #520130Are you using internet connection sharing with your husband’s computer being connected through yours? If that’s the case, then the icon won’t show up in his systray because he’s piggy-backing on your connection. We’ve got a similar setup here and the only time my husband’s computer shows the conection icon is when he connects through his own modem rather than through my connection.
That’s what I call “girl power” – we control the Internet (at least the connection to it).

AskWoody LoungerMarch 24, 2001 at 3:50 pm #520133Ok, that’s a different situation. You may want to check out the following thread which talks about a couple of tools available on your win 98 CD. Two of these are systray tools which may help you with this problem. I’ve never used them myself so can’t say for sure that they’ll help.
If I think of anything else I’ll come back later. -
