Today I received an Error: 745 “An essential file is missing.” Reinstall the Dial-Up Networking files.” while trying to connect through my ISP. I went and removed the Dial-u Networking from the Add/Remove, rebooted, then reinstalled it from the Win 98 2nd edition CD. This did not take care of the problem. I also went into the File Checker and repaired any damaged files. This also did not cure the problem. Help!

      Lynn,

Did you try to look up modem problems in Windows Help? I found that there are several steps in troubleshooting the Error: 745. You might want to give it a try to see if that fixes your problem. Did you remove the whole Dial Up Networking or just the connection? You might want to check the server settings. Also, what type of modem are you using?

Thanks for the input. I did finally get it working. There was one step that I had missed. I needed to go into regedit and delete the SMM_Files key.

        It is working fine now.
