• Disable Laptop Touchpad?

I use a USB mouse with my Sony laptop so I find the touchpad a nuisance. I can’t find any way to disable the Alps Pointing device when I have the USB mouse connected. In Hardware/Device Manager there is no option to disable the touchpad. I’d be grateful for ideas.

If you Google on “disable touchpad”, there’s a lot of information there, some of which may apply to your situation. Just be aware of how to re-enable the touchpad via keystrokes if your mouse stops functioning properly.

It’s amazing how you miss the obvious! I’ve found an icon on my Sony laptop named ‘Sony Notebook Setup’. Under the Device tab there is a check box to disable the Pointing Device !!!

Dell laptops often had a CMOS option to disable the touchpad device when a PS/2 mouse was present but when the USB mouse was used it defeated the setting. Possibly your system is similar.

This change was in the BIOS setup rather than in the trackpoint software itself.
