Okay, this is an embarrassing one. As you can see, I have a database open but I can no longer see it. It’s as though I’ve scrolled too far down the page, but the scrollbar on the right hand side of the background won’t respond when I click on it. I’ve tried closing it and opening it again but that doesn’t work, nor does compact and repair do anything.

How did it get like this? I think I scrolled the mouse wheel whilst the cursor was over the scroll bar – that seems to be the only thing I could have done, but I can’t replicate the behaviour on a different database.

Anybody know how to get my database back? And sorry about the size of the attachment!

Did you try to open the database while you hold down the shift key ?

From recently used files, file:open or windows explorer? I’ve just tried all three of those and I get the same results.

From Windows explorer, hold the shift key down and double click on the db and hold the shift key down until the db is open.
If it don’t work, you can create a new empty database and import all the object form the old one.

Nope. Didn’t work. I was a bit worried about the time importing all the tables etc would take, but at your prompting I went and had a look. I’ve never noticed the select all button before – thanks for your advice, Francois.

              Brooke,

I notice that the Access window is opened at the Maximize setting. Could you try clicking on the “Restore” button? You might be able to see a horizontal scroll bar, and find the database window shrug.

The only other suggestion is to try hitting the F11 key (which should display the Database Window if it somehow got hidden).

              Good Luck!

              Tom,

thanks for the interest – but unfortunately neither works. Still, thanks to Francois it’s more of an academic curiosity now!

              Thanks again.

              How about… Window | Cascade ?

Works perfectly! So simple when you know! Many thanks to all.
