When I right click my Desktop to call up the Display properties screen – it comes up but only with the ‘Themes’ tab in existance.

instead of the normal multi tab screen

I am using Windows XP Home Edition. The box was worked on several months ago by a professional technician because it would not boot up and the tech removed some malware that had corrupted some of the registry entires.

    Ideas? Suggestions? Help!

How about a non-destructive repair install of Windows XP?

Fred Langa: XP’s Nondestructive Total-Rebuild Option

Looks like you may have come up a little short after the malware removal. This kind of thing can happen after
a potentially complicated malware removal, even if it seemingly wasn’t complicated.

I would avoid the “sfc /scannow” unless the service pack you currently have matches the disk in your possession.
But you never know, it might work??

OS Disc in my posession is the original. On the machine is has been updated to SP3.

I have a number of Software packages that I have legally downloaded that I don’t have disc’s for so formating the hard drive is not a option.

Can’t you download the software packages again and put them on removable media (flash or CD/DVD)

You could also download SP3 ahead of time and place it on removable media.

The link Clint points out is for a Non-destructive rebuild. This should leave your apps, data, etc in place. Worth a try.
