    Hello all,

A user creates a document on PC 1, saves it and an other user opens this document om PC 2
And what happens…. The document on PC 2 looks different
The Marges are completely the same, the Word version is the same, The settings are the same and all pages are showing 2 extra textlines….
I have tried to select different printers, but same result.

I anyone has an idea, I like to hear it
    Thanks in advance.

      Hello Patrick

I assume you do not only use the same printer but also exactly the same printer driver?
If yes, you might want to check all settings in the Tools/Options/View menu.

A couple of questions that might give me an idea.

I am assuming that the Word file is in a shared directory on a network. Correct?

It was not clear to me whether the two lines showed up on the display, or only on printing, or both. Thanks.

          Hello Ron,

          Thanks for your reaction.
The Word file came from a diskette and the two lines showed up on the screen and om paper (same printer, same driver)

        Hello hedgehog

        Thanks for your reaction.
The drivers are the same andthe settings are the same

A late shot in the dark. You say all the settings are the same. Specifically have you checked A4 versus Letter size in the printer settings?

This can happen anytime you open a Word document on PCs that aren’t configured exactly the same – I’ve even seen it happen where the only difference was the resolution and refresh rate that the monitor was set to on the SAME PC!! Bizarre as it sounds. That’s one of the reasons pdf files exist…

        Hi Marco,
Your reaction is funny, because the file created on PC 1 was put to PC 2 to make a PDF of it laugh

          can’t help good luck …

          Hi Patrick,

On a more serious note, if it hasn’t been done already, go into Tools/Options/Compatability and check the box ‘Do full justification like WordPerfect 6.x for Windows’. This might get you your two lines back.

It works by allowing Word to reduce the spaces between words if that will leave enough room for the next word to fit on the same line. Normally, Word only stretches the spaces to fill the gaps.

I know this doesn’t deal with the underlying problem, but it might be enough to get you out of a fix.

          Cheers

Are you using TrueType fonts? Are the font substitution settings on both printers identical? (This illustration is from Windows 2000; the dialogs are more “nested” in Windows 98.)

      Hello,

I was just wondering, the only real differance between the two machines is that on PC 2 Acrobat distiller is installed. Does this program changes the Word enviroment?

      • #596738

It could be that acrobat installs a different version of a printer driver (eg pscript.drv). That would be enough to effectively change your environment.
