I met a woman yesterday who reacently moved from Word 2000 (that is not a typo) to Word 2007. Big jump and so far she is happy with the choice. But, in Word 2000 she used the “document map” feature to check documents for styles. (It’s been a few years since I used version 2000 so I don’t remember this…) She says when she opened a document in Word 2000 and used the doucment map she could see the style name in the map for each paragraph in the document. Now, of course, that is not so, burt is there a a feature similar to this that she could use?
    thanks.

      Hi Charlotte
If the problem is merely one of displaying the Document Map this should help. I’m sorry but I cannot comment on the visibility of styles as I no longer have a machine with 2007 installed.

The feature that displays the style name for every paragraph in Word 2003 and before is the Style Area; it’s only visible in Normal and Outline view.
The equivalent for Word 2007 is the Style Pane.
      – Click the Office button.
      – Select Word Options.
      – Click Display.
      – Click Advanced.
      – Change the Style Pane Width in Draft and Outline Views from 0″ to for example 1″.
      – Click OK.
      – If necessary, switch to Draft View.
      – The Style Pane is on the left hand side. Its width can be changed by dragging its edge.

Another method tp spot check the style of a paragraph is to click on the text and press SHIFT+F1. This opens the Reveal Formatting Pane and runs you through ALL the formatting associated with the selected text.
