I sent an 8 page document to a person outside of my office. She wrote back to complain that when she opens the document, there is a line going down the left hand side of the page, and that the document is 80 pages long. Have tried to have others in the office open it, and it is fine. Am assuming that it’s a problem on her end. I’m not even 100% that she’s opening it in Word. Assuming that she is, any ideas what I could tell her to check, any features she may have turned on/off, that might resolve this?

Could it have to do with tracked changes? If the document contains tracked changes, and if the recipient has Word set to display them, there would be a line in the margin, and the document would appear to be much longer if a lot of text has been removed.

        Hi,
        This sounds most peculiar.
You could ask her to do a screen dump of the first page and paste it into an email to you.
That will confirm that she is using word, will show if track changes are on and possibly give you some clues.
        Good luck.
        Regards,
