I maintain a controlled document folder using several document property fields to identify such things as rev level/rev date, document owner, document level, and company categories (see attachment). Whenever I copy Office documents from the server to my flash drive, all of the custom property fields transfer with the document. The same in not true for other extensions (ie: pdf, zip,… ). Is there a problem in how my Windows is setup?

For MS Office files (Word documents, Excel workbooks, PowerPoint presentations and Access databases), document properties are built into the file format.
NTFS drives support document properties for *all* files, but these properties are not part of the files themselves (they are stored in the disk directory), so when you copy the files to a non-NTFS drive such as your flash drive, the document properties aren’t transferred.
