My Vista Home Premium system has been acting up over the last few months. Recently I had to uninstall AVG because it would not update itself and I got fed up with no phone contact on their support website. I’ll decide about them later. I have been seeing the following mysterious message when I have to reboot, which is now frequently. “Error loading C:Progra~2A64D21~1qiclot7i.cpp” It’s been 10 years since I’ve used DOS to do any research, so I’d appreciate some help in figuring out a) what the heck this is and b) how to get to it in DOS and c) identifying the program or whatvever it is that this is involved with. I wonder if it is part of the problems I’ve been having. I’d like to clear this issue but I hesitate to simply start deleting files in DOS. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Google Search finds only this post about qiclot7i.cpp. The path of C:Progra~2A64D21~1qiclot7i.cpp is truncated because of the length of the Folder names, DOS can only do 8.3 format and truncates in the manner shown for longer names. The Program~2 could indicate C:Program Files (x86) on a 64-bit version of Windows for holding 32-bit programs. The 64-bit programs are held in C:Program Files. On a 32-bit version of Windows one will see only C:Program Files. The worst part of truncated names is in identifying the right or wrong ones as the case may be. The A64D21~1 may not be a valid program name or could be an infection name, not enough there to tell.

Before you wonder "Am I doing things right," ask "Am I doing the right things?"

a64d21 is the hexadecimal color code for a medium shade of brown, which may or may not be relevant.

I forgot to include C:ProgramData as a possibility for the C:Progra~2 part of the message.

I would fire up Autoruns from MS to see where it is called and maybe get some pointers from there.

      cheers, Paul
