Double “Documents” folder

At one point, my incredible mouse-control ability failed and I accidentally started to drag the Documents folder inside of another folder and it copied most of the files.

I have since been able to move all the files where they should be. However, in different areas of the system windows I will see two documents folders.. one is empty and the other contains all the files.

For instance, if I use Start Menu/Documents… that takes me to the blank folder. However, at this point up in the window path where it is (user)/Documents, if I back out by clicking the (user) then I see both Documents folders.

I just want to get rid of the other Documents folder. As I navigate from the desktop to that window, I don’t see the 2nd documents folder. Where is the blank one that is referenced by default by the start menu?

You seem to be able to identify the folders using Windows Explorer. So, with Windows Explorer drag the folder you want to get rid of to the folder you want to keep.

My experience with this has been when you attempt to move (in your case inadvertantly) your Documents folder, a prompt will come up asking you a question that says something about “if you don’t do this or that, you will have two Documents folders.” Sorry, but I don’t remember specifically what it says. But the solution for this could be the following: open “Start” and right click on “Documents.” Go the the “Properties” Tab and click “Restore Default.” This will restore your original Documents folder to its original loacation. Then, in Windows Explorer, find the alternate Documents folder and right click it as well. Check it’s “Properties” and if it has 5 (five) tabs across it, you can safely delete it. If it appears to be locked and cannot be deleted, download a free “unlocker” program like “Unlocker” (http://download.cnet.com/Unlocker/3000-2248_4-10493998.html) and install it. Use it to “unlock the threads” that are “attached” to the other rogue Documents folder and then it can normally be safely deleted. I would be remiss if I did not tell you to back up your “Documents” files before doing any of this…just in case there are any issues.
