Intel Core i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.40 w/ GHz 8GB RAM and confirms this system cannot update to Windows 11.

This laptop was only used for annual vacations for my wife to check in at work, until I retired in ’22. Dell warranty and Support Assist updates ended in 2021. Some of the chipset driver updates were from 2015, and should have been done by the Dell Support Assist program automatically.

Since Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 updates, thought I would get everything I can updated ahead of October deadline. Both Norton 360, and C Cleaner show I have 17 drivers that Microsoft Updates also do not install. Norton, and C Cleaner want subscription to install drivers. Dell website online testing confirms the 17 updates, and every link to install takes me to Microsoft Store.

I downloaded the 17 files (each from 6MB to 360 MB files, 7 that require restart) per MS Knowledgebase articles saying I must sign in as Administrator. Again every file takes me to the Microsoft store for application to “Run”. Every file is a .exe file and should run as stand alone, even the Dell Support Assist Updated File takes me to Microsoft Store.

Is this the Microsoft way of forcing everyone to upgrade?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Driver updates should not take you to the Microsoft Store. Are you confusing Microsoft patches with actual driver updates?

Can you post examples of what you download?

MickIver, here’s a link directly to the Dell page for you to download any drivers you might need for your Inspiron 5559. Clicking the link will open it in a new tab in your browser. Please DO NOT try to get to this page by using the Dell Support Assist app, use your browser. The page DOES NOT require the use of the Dell Support Assist app at all, just your browser.

IF you click the link and wind up at the Microsoft Store, then something has hijacked your browser and is forcing it to take you to the MS Store. As @joep517 said above, there are NO driver updates at the Microsoft Store.

On the page, you’ll find seven drivers labeled as critical by Dell and 32 drivers labeled as recommended by Dell. The links for drivers that you see on this page will download the drivers directly to your computer, but you’ll have to click on them once you’ve downloaded them to install them. In some cases, a reboot of the machine will be needed to complete the installation.

Go through the lists carefully to see just which ones you need, as you might already have some installed so they might not need updating. Driver release dates are as important to observe as their release dates.

      Hi MickIver:

Further to Bob99’s post # 2752128 about the Inspiron 5559 support page at https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/en-us/product/inspiron-15-5559-laptop/drivers, make sure you go to Find Specific Drivers | Select Drivers, click the “This Device” tab,  and enter your unique Service Tag to see a filtered list of Dell software and hardware drivers that match your system components.

      Inspiron-5559-Support-Page-Drivers-for-This-Device-Find-Drivers-01-Mar-2025

If you find that the driver version listed in Device Manager *** for a specific hardware device is older than the version recommended on your Inspiron 5559 support page then download the individual .exe installer from your Inspiron 5559 support page and save it to your desktop, right-click the .exe installer, and choose “Run as Administrator“. It doesn’t appear, however, that Dell has posted updated drivers for the Inspiron 5559 since ~ 2020.

*** The image below shows I’m currently using the Intel UHD Graphics 620 v27.20.100.9664 driver recommended on the support page for my Inspiron 15 5584.

      Inspiron-5584-Device-Manager-Intel-UHD-Graphics-620-v27_20_100_9664-Date-01-Jun-2021-03-Mar-2024

As long as your system is stable and you have the Dell Inspiron 5459/5559/5759 System BIOS v1.9.0 listed on your support page [to find your current version open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R), enter msinfo32 to open your System Information panel, and look for the “BIOS Version/Date” field] I personally would not worry about installing newer generic drivers recommended by driver updaters bundled with third-party software like Norton Security and CCleaner Professional.

The drivers recommended on your Inspiron 5559 support page are certified to work correctly with your Dell BIOS, and the Norton and CCleaner forums are littered with posts from users who lost their audio, encountered BSODs, etc. after using those bundled third-party driver updaters (for example, see the CCleaner Driver Updater board). See fabioluzo’s 15-May-2024 post in their topic Vostro 3520 Keeps Crashing in the Dell forum for one example of a Dell user who started seeing BSODs after installing generic Intel and NVIDIA graphics drivers that were not certified by Dell for their Dell BIOS.

That was the page I visited numerous times, as Administrator. Same thing happens, will NOT let me: Run the SupportAssist launcher located in the bottom left of your browser window. Even as Administrator it takes me to Windows store to select program to run.

I did notice a little red tick in dialog box this time, when expanded it basically says: Support has ended, and they recommend updating to new Windows 11 machine.

Could not save, or bring copy of screenshot out from Administrator to attach.

      Thanks for trying
