Anyone know how to activate the “On Entry” or “On Exit” macro function with a drop down form field in a document.

For example, using the “Run macro on” I have selected a macro (that exists in the Module area) but it does not do what the macro contains when I select the dropdown.

    thanks,
    otk

      Hi,

Assuming the form is in protected mode, and the macro is in a standard module, the macro ought to be running.
Would it be possible to attach a sample document with the offending form and code?

      otk,

It does not run when you select the dropdown. It runs when you exit the field to go to another form field (if the doc is protected for forms).

If you want something to run when you click on a dropdown, you may have to look at the controls from the Control Toolbox. They’re a lot more flexdible- but there’s more learning to do, and they do have problems like document size, load response time, and the way they appear when scrolling.

We may have a problem with the imprecision of language here. When you say “select the dropdown” it can mean a number of things.

Form fields work only in a document (or template) that is “protected for forms.” If your document is not so protected when you select a field, it doesn’t work right.

On entry macros run when the field takes the “focus.” That is, becomes the work area for the document. Normally this happens when you tab into or click on a form field.

Nothing happens when you select a choice in a drop-down field. This is not entering or exiting the field.

When you use the tab key to move to the next field or click anywhere outside of the field (within the document) you exit the field and an “On Exit” macro will run.

      Hope this helps.
