When my AT&T DSL connection started behaving strangely (Unable to connect to email server, ping commands not completing), I called AT&T and asked them to check my line. Their tech said he saw problems with the outside line, and some time after he got there another tech called me to say he was on apole down the block working on the line and it would be going off . Then he called back after a half hour or so and asked if I had sync. I had a flashing light , told him so and he said he would have to come by my place to check the signal. When he got here he hooked up to the line at my computer and said the signal was good. My modem looked like it had sync, so he rushed out. I was not able to use the internet from then on, so I called them to ask them to do more checking. Another tech came by 2 days later, checked the signal at the side of the building and told me it was very good, so the eproblem had to be with my modem. I didn’t believe this because both of my AT&T-supplied Siemens modems had been working fine. Anyway I proceeded to work on my inside wiring. Both of their modems would sync intermittently, and the ping command would work halfway, 1 or 2 or 3 of the packets would succeed , but I could not get email nor surf. Then I got a 2Wire Homeportal modem w/wireless router, and it works. Any clue as to why this unit will work and the Siemens units won’t?

AskWoody LoungerJuly 5, 2011 at 11:56 pm #1286772I have been using a Belking modem router for about 2 years and I finally decided to take the switch last week. Much would be credited to the intermittent connection the modem router was giving me. I even contacted Belkin suport for a possible solution but they just gave me a lot of settings to ponder on which later made absolutely no sense. The upgrade was really needed and indeed worth it.
