One of our plans in Project Server relies heavily on external links. When we look at that plan, we see that for many external links, several ghost tasks have been created. For example, for one external link, there are four ghost tasks, with identical task names, start dates, and finish dates, but two show 75% complete and two show 100% complete.

Does anyone know why this happens or how to prevent it? It doesn’t appear to be harming the plan, and we can delete them, but it seems peculiar, and I’ve never seen it happen before.

    Thanks!

I have not seen this, but perhaps the multiple ghost tasks are showing up from multiple external links to the same task, anotherwords a ghost task is generated for each link? I was able to get what look like duplicate ghost tasks from creating concurently linked cross project tasks in the desktop version of Project. I was able to identify they were actually different tasks from different links by adding to the Task entry table the field named Project and the field named Unique ID.
