I just started using EasyCleaner, found at

    http://www.saunalahti.fi/tonihele.

It’s better than regclean, is free, & will also search for & clean duplicate files, unused dlls (caution isadvised).

      Hi All:
I’m posting Dennis question to me and my response.

      Phil,

I’m wondering if you’ve used the Clean Registry function in that program. If you have, how “dangerous” is it? The program warns that running that function is “rather dangerous” (I know, of course, that doing anything with the Registry requires caution, i.e., backup or undo). I’m wondering, in other words, whether it’s worth the risk.

I’m considering using it because my office computer (running Win98 SE, 192MB memory) really bogs down even with a couple of programs running. I’ve stripped the start up menu to very basic essentials, run scandisk and defrag often, have various cache settings optimized for my primary uses, etc.,etc. Running the Clean Registry function (it shows 265 invalid entries) would be my last step before a format and clean install of the OS.

A recount of any experience you’ve had with the program would be greatly appreciated.

      Hi Dennis:

I’ve been using EasyCleaner, along with RegClean, & RegistryCleaner for some time now with no problem. There are a couple of entries that I want to keep (like a shortcut to an MS DOS batch file) that I don’t delete. I keep my registry pretty clean and rarely have more than 20 or 30 entries to delete at any time.

What you could do is go through & delete the ones that pertain to old applications or something outdated. Make sure that your applications work. Then run it again, deleting the rest. It makes a backup file, so if you have problems, you can undo them. It’s fairly benign though…all these utilities have disclaimers. I’ve used it so often that I don’t do a backup before deleting the entries. I do the backup afterwards.

      Hope this helps.
