I just updated Edge on a Win 10 laptop to 122.0.2365.63. Edge will no long display any web pages, including edge’s own pages like settings & help etc. The message is “This page is having a problem. Try coming back to it later. You could open a new tab or Refresh this page. Error code: Out of memory”. Refreshing produces the same page. Opening a new tab produces “Not enough memory to open this page”…

UPDATE!! Nails89 on this thread relates this issue to “enhanced web protection” being enabled in privacy settings. I have this enabled, as well as strict instead of balanced. I can’t load the settings page & don’t really want erase my settings & data by altering my Edge user folder in AppData as per the linked suggestion, so instead I downloaded a batch file from option 4 here (since I can’t load settings): Enable or Disable Enhanced Security Mode in Microsoft Edge Tutorial | Windows 11 Forum

This worked! Edge will open & work as normally. However as stated on the tin, it greys out some of the security options in settings, so you cannot alter them…

Suggest quickly toggling that security setting off, & switching the setting underneath it from strict to balanced, before the browser updates itself. Obviously that setting will need to remain off until MS provides a fix.

      My Win 10 up-to-date Edge shows — Version 122.0.2365.59  —

Based on the post Below …. I’m trying the Balanced Setting first and will post results when an Update occurs..

From Alex link … [For others with a working version of Edge 122.0.2365.63do you have enhanced web protection enabled?

No, mine was turned off. I’ve just turned it on — (as Balanced) — and Edge continues to work normally.
Edit: switched to Strict and got your “Not enough memory to open this page”.]

This advice doesn’t make any sense!?!?

If you toggle the security setting OFF, the settings below it are grayed out and can’t be selected.

In order to select “Balanced“, the toggle must be ON!

Update: Microsoft has removed the problematic version 122.0.2365.63 from its download servers.

      Tested on …063 ?

        Tested on …063 ?

No because the advice very clearly states:

Suggest quickly toggling that security setting off, & switching the setting underneath it from strict to balanced, before the browser updates itself.

Because, if it’s ON and set to Strict when Edge updates to 122.0.2365.63, you lose access to “all” the settings in Edge!

So I tried it using 122.0.2365.59 and here’s the results.

        With the toggle OFF:
        SecurityToggleOff
The settings under the toggle are grayed out can’t be changed.

        But with it ON:
        SecurityToggleOn
        They can be changed.

So, like I said, the advice, “as given“, doesn’t make sense because it’s impossible to do it that way!

The more reasonably advice would have been, “Select Balanced and then turn the toggle off.”

.63 is interesting because the CVE says it applies to Edge for Android…

CVE-2024-26196 – Security Update Guide – Microsoft – Microsoft Edge for Android (Chromium-based) Information Disclosure Vulnerability

It’s still available for download on the Edge for Business release site for Linux and MacOS only…in the “Looking for an older version of Edge?” section.

      Download Edge for Business (microsoft.com)

.66 for the Stable Channel is now available for Windows.

Thanks to your post, I decided to update my copy of Edge to the .66 version by using its’ built-in updating tool in the Help>About area and it automatically updated to the .66 version.

Safe to say, I can load any page I’d like, no “out of memory” error messages, just the page I typed into the URL bar.  🙂

And yes, that is with its’ enhanced web security set to “on” and the setting under it set to “Strict”.

I don’t use Edge regularly at all but keep it around and updated in case a site I want to visit doesn’t like anything but Chrome or Edge.

Didn’t affect anyone with default or recommended settings.

However, if a user went to Settings > About…before .63 was pulled and before. 66 was released…the update to .63 would have happened automatically.

One of the reasons I have had a block in the Windows Firewall for Edge updates.
