I switched to eM Client from Outlook 2010 because I couldn’t get Outlook 2010 to connect to my gmail account. eM Client worked at first, but now I get endless prompts for my password and it refuses to connect. Here is the configuration.

As a temporary work-around I am forwarding my primary email account to another gmail account and set eM Client to send & receive from that address. I don’t know why this works and my primary gmail account does not.

See https://forum.emclient.com/emclient/topics/endless-prompting-for-password-win-10-gmail?utm_source=notification&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=new_comment&utm_content=reply_button&reply%5bid%5d=17022351#reply_17022351 and http://superuser.com/questions/1093123/outlook-2010-gmail-setup-error for more details.

    Thanks!

I use IMAP for gmail and don’t have any issues.

      cheers, Paul

        Paul,

I guess I’ll have to switch to IMAP and get used to how it processes mail which is very different from POP. I used Outlook for years and got used to send/receive only occurring when I click send/receive. If I’m not mistaken IMAP immediately sends & receives. That’s kinda unnerving. I like to be in control!

There is a setting within Gmail that needs to be turned on to allow ‘less secure’ access.

      Link here.

        Browni,

I have turned on the “less secure” access. It has no effect.

I’m suspicious of something being wrong with my primary gmail account somewhere behind the scenes at Google since my alternate Gmail account works just fine. I filed a complaint with Google, but got nowhere.

IMAP use push notification where the server sends you updates instead of waiting for you to request them. It also keeps a copy of all mail on the server and the client, which you may not want.

      cheers, Paul

Yes, Paul. The “push” nature of IMAP is what I don’t like.

Just now I was able to make the Win 10 Mail app work with Gmail without a fuss. The difference is that Mail linked to Gmail for password authentication.

      Yea!!!!

I tried one last time to get Outlook to connect to my primary gmail account and it worked!!!

All I did was to change the email address and password in the new account I set up for the forwarded email. I don’t know why this worked when everything else failed, but I’m grateful that it did.
