• Email not sending from Office 2010

    Hi Folks

I have a weird problem with Outlook 2010.

When I ‘Reply-To-All’ to emails, sometimes it refuses to send, and the email sits in the Outbox.

I have noticed that when it fails to send, there is no Time/Date in the ‘Sent’ column, just ‘None’, and I can’t see a way of setting or changing the ‘Sent’ Date and Time.

I have tried creating a brand-new Reply, and Pasting my text into it, but that still does not work. No Date in the Send column.

Is there some obscure setting buried in the Options that I need to change?

As extra info, the problem happens when I ‘send’ the new email to the Outbox, and before I make any online connection.
So it is not a Server connection issue, it happens before that within Outlook itself.

Have you turned on logging in Outlook?
Are any of the recipients distribution lists?
Do the number of recipients make a difference?
Is this to a specific recipient?

No. Will it cure the problem? Or just give me code-lists?
          No.
No. Reply to One or to All is the same.
          No. Any recipient.

I should say that this ‘just started happening’, nothing has changed (unless Outlook has somehow guessed that I’m moving away from MS and decided to sabotage my email…) on this PC.

It seems strange that other people are getting this problem (searching elsewhere on the web throws up a LOT of ‘Mail won’t send’ issues identical to this one, ie not server- or connection-based), yet there is no fix from MS, just some ‘You need to do this-and-this-and-this-and-this, and good luck, but it probably won’t fix the problem’ suggestions.

I am completely fed up with MS, and so apart from the Music Production PC, I am moving everything I can to other OS’s, and this ‘Oh we don’t know why our product is broken’ is just another nail in their coffin.

The only reason left to use Outlook is the Mail Archiving ability, which lacks on my Android phone and iPad. Since it won’t sync with Google Calendars or Contacts (I can Export them, but that’s not the same as Syncing. And I am not getting into Exchange at all!), it’s a long time since it got used to it’s full capacity.

I have Outlook 2007, and any mail I send gets stuck in the outbox.

I finally gave up on it and went to Thunderbird.

Sorry that I don’t have the answer; I just got tired of fighting it with no solution.

I have the same problem at work computer, the only fix i could find was to drag the email from the outbox to the drafts folder, then open it and hit send on the email itself and then it goes.

Also, very occasionally email will work, ie. get sent to the Outbox with a ‘Sent’ timestamp. And then it will Send.

But the very next email I send will fail, and all subsequent emails.

Have you tried creating a new email profile?

Logging will not fix the problem but may give an insight into what is happening.

      Just a quick thought:
I’ve had many problems with Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 and have found that the Outlook Connector (which, according to Microsoft, should not used for Outlook 2007) seems to require uninstalling and reinstalling whenever there have been major updates to not only Outlook but Office in general. I have gotten to the point that I automatically do this to avoid all of the “send”, “receive”, “no time stamps” error codes, etc. when I open Outlook.

Just had this happen to me, all outgoing mail stuck in outbox. My solution was uncheck a box in my antivirus which checks outgoing mail for virus, now mail gets sent OK. Also contacting AV maker for solution.

I should add a caveat to my post here:
I only have problems with my MSN and Hotmail (IMAP) accounts. My POP3 non-Microsoft email account also polled via Outlook just zooms along with no problems while the Microsoft accounts have spasms. Rather than using the POP3 set-ups for the MS accounts, I just uninstall and reinstall the Connector – which, by the way, I had to do today. I’ve tried using all of the recommendations suggested in the Outlook support FAQs, set up new user profiles, data files, talked to both Microsoft AND my Internet Security vendor(s), allowed remote handling by the aforementioned in an to attempt to fix these issues (none of which worked) and finally just stumbled upon the “temporary” fix myself – uninstalling and reinstalling the Connector. Frankly, I’ve been frustrated with Microsoft for MANY years because it appears the updates to the various versions of their operating systems and/or programs do not necessarily mesh within their own environmental frameworks. More often than not, “something’s gotta give” and Outlook seems to be the weak point.
          Oh well…
