Windows Internet Explorer for 64 bit. Fails even after running FixIt and rebooting.
In addition, the IE shortcut “iexplore.exe… has been changed or moved…”
No IE can be found, neither menu bar, Program Files, quick launch bar though they were there previously. It seems IE was somehow removed (no loss, I prefer Chrome and Firefox), but could malware be responsible?
I used Malwarebytes and MSE scans and they found no problems.
Seemed to happen after an update…

Have you tried using system restore to reset your PC back to a point where you know it was working?

Malware often does things like you describe. It is hard to say for sure. Since MalwareBytes and MSE do not find anything it’s even more difficult. A system Restore as Browni mentions is worth trying. If you have a system Image from prior to the problem this would be even better.

A Google Search shows some possibilities. It seems this error might be related to an incomplete installation of an IE update.

Have you checked the Windows configuration in Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features | Turn Windows features on or off to see if IE was disabled?
