I have Word templates that contain Document Variables.

When I Open the Word template, the document field variables are fine that is no errors are displayed.

From the Word template if I create a new Word document , the result is on all my DocVariables display the message “ERROR! No document variable suppiled”. To the end user this error message can be alarming and off-putting.

Ive checked the code and on the AutoNew there is no code running which “Updates all the fields” in the document.

I understand that document variables are like fieldcodes. but how does this work.
Would this be a Word setting? and how would i disable this error message? can I ?

    many thanks
    diana

Is this in a document management system? If so, have you tried what happens with a local template and document?

Hans…yes we do have a document management system Hummingbird.

I have tested in the different environments.
        1. Word with our global templates within the DM
        2. Native Word (without our global templates) within DM
        3. Native Word and no DM

the result is always the same.
Open the document – the result is no errror msg on the DocVariables
New document the result is = error on the DocVariables

That’s strange – I tried it in situation 3 and document variables and DocVariable fields were inherited correctly by documents. Could you post a small demo template?
          – You can remove everything except for a document variable and a DocVariable field.
          – Zip the template (you cannot attach .dot files)

As requested Ive attached the zip file.
Apologies they are Word documents but are referred to as “Templates” as the docs are the Master file

            cheers diana

I’m very confused. The master file or whatever you attached contains 50 document variables whose names all begin with IDD (from IDDA1 to IDDW1V3Type). It contains 29 DocVariable fields whose names all begin with M, so none of them refer to any of the existing document variables.

yes…true true..I had’nt picked that up before. (its good to have a 2nd set of eyes view it doh

…i guess its back to the drawing board. and see how it all ties in.

              cheers Hans
