For the last couple of weeks I have noticed two identical error messages pop up just as the computer shuts down. I took a video of the errors and have attached images. The first error comes up for about a half second then the second one on top of it for just a fraction before shutdown. I have tried looking through the event viewer at the time the errors occurred but I’m not knowledgeable to make sense of what I’m looking at. The errors don’t seem to harm anything since they occur just as the computer shuts down. I’m using the latest version of Win 10 64 bit with all current updates. Is there some way I can track down what is causing this? Thanks.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody MVPJune 18, 2023 at 4:14 pm #2566997Start with Alex’s suggestion above, and see if you do have any errors in the reliability monitor. That can yield some information with regards to just which file(s) or program(s) is/are causing the problem.
If the problem is within Windows, then it is time for you to run (from a command prompt with administrator privileges) the following: chkdsk /f. Run it on the drive that contains your Windows installation. You’ll be told that it needs to reboot the computer in order to do what it needs to so, so go ahead and reboot the computer by selecting the option labeled “Restart” from the start menu’s power options. The command will actually run immediately after the computer begins its boot process and, once chkdsk is finished will then proceed to let Windows finish booting up.
Once you’ve run the chkdsk command, now run the command “sfc /scannow” (without the quotes, of course) again from a command prompt with administrator privileges. If you have Windows installed on a HDD instead of an SSD, it may take a while, so please be patient.
Let us know what you find.

AskWoody MVPJune 19, 2023 at 5:37 pm #2567377Getting a “Forbidden” error from AskWoody when I try to view your chkdsk log. Can you change the file type to .txt and try to re-upload it?
Nothing out of the ordinary in the sfc log at all…it found and fixed a bad link to a file.
By the way, please see @geekdom ‘s post below for another suggestion.
