I use an estate planning program called “WealthTec”, which runs on Excel. There are two versions of this program. One requires Office 2003 or earlier; the other runs on Office 2007.
The Office 2003 version runs MUCH faster. The WealthTec program loads much faster and loads case files much faster.
The load speed of the Office 2007 version depends, strangely, on the printer I’ve listed as Windows default printer. If I use my Canon MP830 as the default printer, either plugged directly into my laptop or as a network printer, the WealthTec program’s cases take nearly a minute to load. If I list a FAX printer as the default printer, the cases load in 25 seconds. This is always the case, even when I NEVER TELL THE PROGRAM TO PRINT ANYTHING.
I suspect that this is due to how Excel 2007 deals with instructions and communicates with the printer, and may be related to formatting (not just formatting in printing, but formatting for the screen).
In the Office 2003 version, cases load in 25 seconds, whether I’ve selected a FAX printer or the Canon MP830 as default printer.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this oddball problem?
I am running a laptop with 4 GB of RAM, running Windows 7.
Thanks,
John
