I want to use the color scheme from Excel 2003 and earlier in Excel 2010. How can I do that? I just like the earlier colors better.

AskWoody PlusNovember 1, 2012 at 5:30 pm #1354309Thanks, MartinM. That is close, but not exactly what I want. The article you link to tells how to set the palette of an Excel 2010 worksheet when it is opened in an earlier version of Excel. But what I want is that color palette (from the earlier version of Excel) to be the palette that is available in Excel 2010.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 8, 2012 at 10:26 am #1355632Sorry to be so long in replying – but I think I have found a way to do what you want, at last !
1. In Excel 2010 open the Excel 2003 workbook which has the colours that you want.
2. Go to the Page Layout tab
3. Click on the Themes icon on the Themes menu
4. Click on Save Current Theme, and save it with the extension .thmx
You can then use this colour theme (scheme) in any Excel 2010 workbook.
Assuming that this works in the way you want, you can set your chosen theme as the Excel 2010 default by applying it to a blank workbook and then saving that as book.xltx in the XLSTART directory.
