Reversing a bug that was intentionally introduced last month. It isn’t a complete solution, but it is a decent compromise. InfoWorld Woody on Windows

AskWoody_MVPAugust 11, 2016 at 3:41 pm #37606This explains the mystery of Excel patch KB3115455 coming on WSUS starting yesterday and dated August 3rd. Very unusual release schedule for the non-security Office patches of which I thought none was released this cycle.
“Combined that with last week’s 40-odd Office non-security patches, which won’t be available on WSUS until Aug. 16” -

I received the Excel “fix” update KB3115476 yesterday for my Win7 Office 2010. It came as an update “unchecked.” The Security Update that broke Excel KB3115322 is still in my list from last month which I did not install as it broke Excel. Since it’s an update to Security Update KB3115322 does that mean we have to install the bad Sec. Update and then check the box to download and install update fix KB3115476 that was just released? I wait to download and install Win Updates when you change your DEFCON rating but I’m confused about the supposed fix. Will you be providing additional guidance about this when it’s time to apply August updates? -

AskWoody_MVPAugust 12, 2016 at 7:03 pm #37610@Jeri Windows Update should take care of supersedence for you. If you are offered only the later patch, that may mean that is can potentially have additional functionality instead of only fixing the previous patch. Unfortunately the KB article is not clear in this matter https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3115476

GuestAugust 12, 2016 at 10:48 pm #37611Woody, I did get the Office 2010 Excel Security Update KB3115322 July Security Update but did not install it due to reported problems. It is still in my list of Security Updates along with August Security Updates to install. Should I not install last month’s Excel Security Update for Excel and just hide it along with the update fix for August KB3115476? I would not install the fix by itself and that’s why I was asking if I should install last month’s Office 2010 Excel Security Update and then apply the fix. I think you are all saying not to install these?
