Add-ins cannot increase the maximum sheet count, which is still limited only by available memory, and has been since at least Excel 2000, AFAIK.

AskWoody LoungerApril 7, 2008 at 7:37 pm #1104844Can anyone tell me if this site: CPAN is an addin to Excel? I was out looking for changes in Excel 2007 today (trying to verify that the maximum sheet count for Excel 2007 is 256 like it is for Excel 2003), when I came across this page that says it can have more…many more! Is this an add-in they are talking about or have I been assuming wrong info all these years? What is the maximum sheet count in a new Excel 2007 workbook without an addin?

AskWoody LoungerApril 7, 2008 at 7:53 pm #1104847So…256 is not the limit? If you have 1G of memory is 256 the limit, and if you have more memory (double like 2007) can you have more (like 400)? If you try to add more then 255 in Excel 2007 it says that 255 is the limit. How would anyone get more then 255 if you can’t type more then 255 into the dialog box? Note picture attached. Is the link from the prior post I gave from CPAN using Perl, and is this the only way to get more sheets, to actually write a program (like with Perl) to do so?

AskWoody LoungerApril 7, 2008 at 7:59 pm #1104851Wow…I just did it. I feel so dumb. I thought that the 255 was the max, and that is why everyone has been hollerin’ for Microsoft to build bigger worksheets…because of the worksheet limit. There is no limit except Memory…I learned a great deal today, though I wish I had been taught this years ago. Thank you
