excel options (ofc 2003 – xp – current)

I am having problems with excel 2003 – just converted from excell 2000. I seem to be losing “Options” specifically
Recently Used Files and Precision as displayed.
On a seemingly random basis – I may or may not get any entries in the Recently Used File list – also, as I recheck Options – the Precision as displayed check box may be either on or off – I want it on permanently.

Any ideas will be appreciated –

The “Precision as Displayed” setting is stored in the workbook (at least, it should be), it is not an application-level setting. So if you set “Precision as Displayed”, then create a new workbook or open another workbook, the setting will probably be off.
If you want it to be on in all new workbooks, create a blank workbook with this setting (and all other settings you prefer) and store it as an Excel template named Book.xlt in your XLStart folder The default location is C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftExcelXLStart. The Application Data folder is hidden, so you must display hidden files and folders in order to see it.

After much searching I finally found out what was destroying my “recently used files list”. It was a software package called Ccleaner (Crap Cleaner).

For some reason it was destroying the EXCEL 2003 recently used file list, but not Word 2003’s list

When I cleared the check box telling it to cleanup after Word 2003 – my recently used file list survived.

Ah yes, you have to be very careful with CCleaner – it is a useful program, but it can really whack you settings if you give it too much leeway.
