Excel Template (Excel 2000)

I have created a template in Excel for a form to be completed on line. I have created several macros and have placed them as a button on a customized toolbar. The macros have been saved in the current template workbook. However, when I try to send this template, via e-mail, to another computer, the customized toolbar is not included when the document is opened. Is there any way to accomplish this?

Replies

Write macros to create the custom menu “on the fly” when the Template is opened and delete the custom menu when the Template is closed. A bit of work but worth it.

The custom toolbar is stored in the .xlb file, not in the template. The best way to do what you want is to write code in the Open Event routine to create the custom tool bar when the template is used to create a new workbook. You should probably also be nice and remove the custom toolbar when the workbook is closed. You could also use the Workbook Activate/Deactivate event routines if you don’t want the custom toolbar when the user switches between multiple open workbooks.

Thanks for the help. I’ll give it a try. Would there be a problem if I were to just copy my .xlb file to the user’s computer?

Several problems with just copying the .xlb file.

1- You would have to find where to put it (the location varies with different versions of Office and Windows).

2- After you get it copied to the right place, you have to double click on it before Excel recognized that it has the new file.

3- If the user has customized his own command bars, you will clobber them, and probably have an unhappy user.

Hi Legare,

please excuse my direct post to you, but I’ve a similar great problem with the custom/command bars and XLB-Files…
Do you have any idea to solve this ‘similar’ problem, I’ve posted…
