When I boot my computer, it starts with Explorer windows open for my C and my D drive. I have checked the Startup folder and nothing is there. I have run msconfig and looked at the ini files for “load” and don’t see it there. Where else can I try?

If one is to shut down or restart their machine with Windows Explore open, it will want to be open on restart. That is part of the “Saving Settings” on power down. I have had this happen to me also, but by closing Windows Explorer I have NOT had it since.
      Hope this will help.

Yup. I, too, close all windows on shutdown. I’m really glad to hear someone else has this problem. With me, though, it happens 100% of the time. But it only started a month or two ago — and I got WinME last November. So it hasn’t happened from the start. I’ve searched every place I can think of, and can’t figure out what is starting explorer. By the way, I only have drives C and D, so it’s all my mapped drives, too.

‘Run’ “msconfig” and then select the ‘StartUp’ tab. This will show ALL processes that are started on StartUp.

This list MAY show what is starting Windows Explorer.

It didn’t. But due to another problem, I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall everything — that certainly made the problem go away!

But how long will that last? I find that any time my PC has a problem, eg with a piece of software hanging, then those windows rear their ugly heads the next time I boot up. Sometimes every drive, sometimes just an (apparently) random selection.

I’ve solved the problem. I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows ME and then all the apps. Then I purchased Windows XP and did it all again. So THAT problem is solved. Or rather, replaced by other problems according to Murphy’s Law!
