I have Outlook 2007 on my laptop and my desktop. I need to export the contacts from the laptop to the desktop. I’m not sure if I remember the steps. Can anyone help me? Thank you very much.

      On the laptop:

Select File | Import and Export…
Choose ‘Export to a file’, then click Next.
Select ‘Personal folders file (.pst)’ or ‘Comma separated values (Windows), then click Next.
Select your Contacts folder, tick the check box to include subfolders (only available if you selected ‘Personal folders file’), then click Next.
Specify a file name, then click Next.
      Click Finish.

Transport the exported file to the desktop.
      On the desktop:

Select File | Import and Export…
Choose ‘Import from another program or file’, then click Next.
Select the file type you used, then click Next.
Specify the file, then click Next.
You may have to map custom fields.
      Finally, click Finish.

Thank you, Hans. It worked perfectly.

Maybe you could tell us about SyncToy, if you have used it, and how to apply it, if it is relevant. If it’s a better way, that’s great, but I admit to not having used it myself. For anyone who has to synchronize two computers on a regular basis, it sounds potentially valuable, and you can’t beat the price.

I don’t have SyncToy, so I cannot tell anything about it.

My apology: I should have explained that SyncToy is a Windows PowerToy freely downloadable from Microsoft. Because it is a PowerToy it is unsupported, and they do seem to link it closely to photography in discussing applications, but they also specifically mention email.

I had hoped that either you or someone else reading the thread might have had personal experience with it, since synchronizing such files is common among certain users but it is not something I do often. It appears that Microsoft has significant documentation to go with it, and I should have read that before asking.

I believe that you can use Synctoy to copy an entire PST to another location, but Outlook must be closed to release the file handle(s) on the PST.
