I recorded several macros that created a DATABASE field. The ones access a tab delineated txt file worked fine. However, the macro that used an XLSX file introduced the Select Data Source dialog box, which requires the user to find the file and then click OPEN before continuing.

Why does this superfluous dialog box appear, and more importantly, how do I make it not appear?

      ForEach,

Lack of responses indicates this may be an unfamiliar area, but it may help if you can list the steps that you take as you record the macro, as well as the resultant macro code. Also, does the unwanted dialog box appear in the user interface as you record the macro, or are you saying it only appears when you run the recorded macro? Also, is this in Word 2007?
