Hello. Long time no see all… I don’t have access to Woody’s at work and it’s driving me nuts… especially now that I have a problem that I’m sure someone here can help me with.
I have two separate documents, a Leader Guide and a User Guide. As one would imagine, the Leader Guide has everything the User Guide has with the addition of notes, PPT screenshots and various other hints. Currently, the Leader Guide references page numbers in the User guide.
I need to be able to make the referenced page numbers in the Leader Guide so they can be automatically updated with any pagination change made to the User Guide. So far, here’s what I’ve tried:
Say the Introduction is on page 5 in the User Guide.
I tried inserting a hidden PAGE reference next to the Introduction heading showing the page number and bookmarked the heading as well as the code then tried the code below in the User Guide.
User Guide:
Introduction 5
(introduction is bookmarked as Intro and the 5 is the PAGE field and bookmarked Page)
Leader Guide:
See the {INCLUDETEXT “C:UserGuide.doc” Intro /!} on page {INCLUDETEXT “C:UserGuide.doc” Page /!}
This, however, does not work… the Introduction text comes in fine but the page number does not. Not sure why. Wish it did. It keeps showing as 1. Is it because you can’t bookmark fields?
Thanks all… I’ll be back tonight hoping for an easy answer .
Thanks for trying!
have fun
