Hi,   have seen your remarks on Win11 24H2 for some time and your current opinion to still not recommend same.  I haven’t been concerned as I am running Win10.

However, I recently found the settings in my AMD PC to enable TMP2.  This means I will be offered the upgrade to WIN11 .  But, if I accept this, it appears it will install 24H2 !!

If I am correct I think I will reverse the TMP2 setting to make my PC again “unable to upgrade to Win 11”.

      Good idea ??

      Geoff

There are several ways to keep the TPM2 setting and block Win11 24H2. In other words, you can move to Win11 23H2 and not be offered 24H2.

You can use Gibson Research’s InControl to set the Version and Release of Windows you want to keep.

You can use Group Policy (if you have the Pro Edition) or Registry Settings to set the Product and Release Version. See AKB6000004.

So I can use Gibson’s InControl on a Win10 PC, set the version to 11 23H2, and then Windows Update will install Windows 11 23H2?

          Thanks, Steve

I built a new workstation to replace my over 6 years old PC.  Since I was doing a fresh install of Windows I went with 24H2 and used Rufus to prevent Bitlocker from being enabled.  The install went perfectly normal and I have not seen any issues at all over the past three weeks of use.  I still have to hook up my Canon Pro-1000 photo printer and will do that this week.  My HP Deskjet installed right away.  I have a second PC that is hooked up to the TV and only used for media streaming.  I did a simple in place upgrade to 24H2.  Although it took a bit of time there have been no issues but of course the PC does nothing more than stream to the TV and the external DVD/BluRay reader works fine.  It may be that the major issues people are seeing come from an in place upgrade.

February — Same number of patches, fewer bugs

Weren’t there 159 patches last month, but only 63 this month?

2025’s first Patch Tuesday: 159 patches, including several zero-day fixes

For February’s Patch Tuesday, Microsoft rolls out 63 updates

I thought the purpose of the MVPs on this site was to offer insightful and valuable advice and feedback to others here on the site who have asked questions or have a problem that needs solving, not to over analyze or nitpick what other valuable contributors might post.

        If I’m wrong, that’s disappointing.

You must have a higher threshold for misinformation than me.

I don’t consider the number mentioned by Susan to be misinformation at all, but rather a rough indication of the overall volume of patches out there from Microsoft. In other words, I don’t really care about exactly how many patches are out there from Microsoft.

What I care much more about is which vulnerabilities are patched and how any untoward side effects of a patch’s installation might affect me and the folks I must support.

Such as Alex5723’s post right below here about more File Explorer hiccups after installing a monthly patch for Windows 11 24H2.

Windows 11 KB5051987 breaks File Explorer, install fails on Windows 11 24H2

Windows 11 KB5051987 has a major problem where File Explorer does not respond when you try to open folders, such as Desktop, Documents or Pictures. Worse, we’ve also observed that File Explorer does not open when you try to access it via the desktop shortcut or use Windows Search…

Windows 11 KB5051987 is not installing, is too slow to download or tries to install multiple times…

This month KB5049981 was offered for Win10 22H2.  I’m hesitating to install it because it’s the largest “patch” I’ve ever seen…103.94Gb.  Has anyone had any experience with this patch?  Susan, have you tested it?

      Thanks in advance!

That’s interesting.  This is what I see using the Windows Update Mini Tool:
