Hi, all! Is there a way to convert a Visio file (vsd) into something usable WITHOUT having a version of Visio?
One of my users received a Visio org chart – and we can’t seem to convert it.
We’re using Win98, Office2000. Thanks for any help!

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 23, 2001 at 1:50 am #515933You will need a graphics package capable of importing a .vsd file. I checked on PowerPoint 97 and it does not seem to have the capability to import Visio drawings. With Microsoft acquiring Visio recently, perhaps PowerPoint 2000 has this capability. If you have another graphics package you can check and see if it has this capability. There may also be some way of importing it into Word as an object; however, I am not sure how to do that. I am sorry I can’t be of more help.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 23, 2001 at 5:42 am #515984Have you checked the Microsoft Visio site? Previous versions of Visio came with a viewer that could be distributed with diagrams, and something like that may be available for Visio 2000. The diagram extensions changed between versions, I believe. One other option is to try embedding the thing in a Word document and then previewing the document. Word 2000 should be able to handle it.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 23, 2001 at 1:45 pm #516009Good morning! Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and links.
We tried several of your ideas involving Word and PowerPoint… but they didn’t seem to work for us (could be user error!)
To our surprise, though, we found a copy of Visio! All is well with our user’s attachment.
Thanks to you all for the suggestions. I really appreciate all of the efforts.
