I was looking at file history today and noticed something odd.  I have Music on my D:\ drive as one of my selected folders to be backed up.  In Music, I have a subfolder called Bill.   This is where I store all my music and it has thousands of files in it in subfolders.

It doesn’t appear that the contents of that folder, Bill,  are being backed up.  All the other subfolders of My Music are being backed up.  If I go into restore, I can see all the other folders and they do have files in them.  The folder Bill does not show up in restore.  If I look at my file history on my external drive (which is where the backups are located), The folder Bill doesn’t exist.

I’m probably doing something wrong, but can anyone help?  Why might the Bill subfolder not get backed up?

    Thanks,

    Bill

      Bill,

?What are you using for a backup program??  ?Windows? Better to consider a 3rd party backup, e.g. FreeFileSync or similar rather than relying on Windows.

As to the particular problem here, I’m not sure what the problem is.

      Sorry,

      Zig

      Zig,

I use a variety of backup techniques including Syncback, Macrium Reflect, iDrive, and Windows File History.  My question is in regards to Windows File History.

      Thanks,
      Bill

I think WFH only works when you make a change. Make a copy of one of your files, then modify it and see if WFH picks up the change.

      cheers, Paul

Over the years I have added and deleted many files to the subfolders of the folder named Bill.  None of these show in file history.  Yesterday I added a file, waited a couple hours and then modified it.  Today I checked and there is still no folder named Bill and the file I modified is not in file history.  It is almost as if something is preventing that folder from being put into file history.

      Thanks,

      Bill
