How can I set the default display order of files in folders to be in date, descending order? In other words, I want to view details, but with the most recently changed file at the top of the list. The computer at work is running Windows 2000.
    Thanks in advance.

File Manager? This is the 21st century, man! Do you mean Windows Explorer / My Computer?

        Hans,
Oops! Showing my age. Yes, Explorer. In the public PC at work, I’d like to have the default view be Details, arranged in descending date order.
Sorry if I unsettled you with reference to a long dead piece of software. yikes

Open Windows Explorer to a folder of your choice.
Arrange the view the way you want it.
          Select Tools | Folder Options…
          Activate the View tab.
          Click “Apply to all folders”.
          Click OK.
