I can’t seem to get around this error I receive when saving from Word 2000 down to Word 97. It says that the file permissions will not allow the file to be saved to 97? Any help, appreciated.

Word 97 uses the same file format as Word 2000 (and Word 2002 and Word 2003), so there is no need to “save down to Word 97”. There is an option to save in a dual Word 97-2000 & 6.0/95 (RTF) format, but this should only be used if you need to share documents with Word 6.0 (for Windows 3.x) and Word 95 users, but I don’t think there are many left.

        Another, confirmation,
So if someone requests a file in
        “Microsoft Office 97 format”
is it confirmed that if it’s a Word 2000 file, that they could open the file? 100% ?

Yes. In fact, there is no conversion to Word 97, since the Word 97 format is identical to the Word 2000 format.
The only thing to keep in mind is that if you used features that were introduced in Word 2000, such as tables within tables, they may not be displayed correctly in Word 97. But the document should still open.

In the Help for Word 2000 is a list of the features that were added. As noted by HansV, there were significant changes to the way Word handles tables. As you read through the other items, you may find some that affect the contents of the file while others only affect the interface. Use this as your guide to the likely result for a person opening the file in Word 97.
