    Files 3.6

..Right from the offset it is clear that the developers have aimed to make up for Explorer’s shortcomings, including features such as a tabbed interface, dual-pane option, and an impressive Fluent-based design. This is a modern app in every sense of the word – appearances, feel and even ideology (this is an open source app that’s available on GitHub as well as in the Microsoft Store

The app is free but is $8.99 on Microsoft store

    What a Rip-off.

I just installed it from your Microsoft Store link without any payment.

Well, perhaps you “got lucky”. I just checked it within the last two minutes, and it was shown for the same price quoted in Alex’s original post, $8.99. No, I didn’t attempt to download nor install it because I’m happy with what I’ve gotten with using the built-in Explorer.

From the MS Store’s page for Files 3.6:

Purchasing Files through the Microsoft Store will help support the developers and enable them to continue to develop and improve the app with new features and support for future updates.

So, the money from your purchase “will help support the developers…” Well, that’s a noble cause, problem is MS doesn’t say exactly how much of your purchase winds up in the developer’s (developers’) pocket(s).  😐

      Microsoft takes 30% cut.

Anyway, it is a rip-off charging for an app free on GitHub, Downloadcrue…

Files is a community-driven project that depends on your support to grow and improve. Please consider purchasing Files through the Microsoft Store or supporting us on GitHub if you use the classic installer.

The above is a direct quote from their GitHub site. I added the bolding for emphasis.

Based upon what is on their GitHib site, quoted above, it looks like the developer/developers might just disagree with you.
