Fillin fields and Autonew macro

I am developing a simple letter template which uses Fillin fields to collect stuff like the address etc. An Autonew macro, which simply contains a ctrl-end command “fires” the fillin fields when a document is created from the template. With earlier versions of Word prior to 97, it was necessary to record a ctrl-a, then F9 to fire the fillin fields, but newer versions (I am working in 2000) seem not to require this last step.

However, upon creating a new document based on my template, some of the Fillin fields “fire” a second time. Why? And how do I stop it?

You may want to download the letterhead system from
my download page (http://www.addbalance.com/word/download/)

This may not be the best way to set up letterhead, but it is a way that works for me. It consists of modular components so that changes to a letterhead are reflected in all form documents created from then on while documents that were created earlier remain unchanged.

It seems that Word (bizarrely!) will activate Fillin fields when a document is created based on a template other than normal.dot, without use of an AutoNew macro. So I just don’t use the AutoNew macro now.
