I’ve read that a filter button is supposed to appear in the dialog box after i’ve selected export contacts to an excel file. It doesn’t appear for me.
Is there any way I can selectively export specific contacts?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerOctober 18, 2001 at 11:15 pm #547562Sorry, I can’t recall ever seeing a filter button on any version of Outlook that I have used when exporting any type of data.
What may be a workable solution for you is to filter the contacts before you try to export them. Create a filter within your contacts folder which will give you just the contacts you are after, then create a new Contacts folder and copy those contacts to it. Use the new contacts folder when you do the export.
Not exactly what you are after
, but the best I can think of to solve your problem. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me knows of a better way, or knows if there should be a filter button somewhere in the export process
Hope this helps.

It would then simply be a matter of deleting the rows with the unwanted contacts.I only suggest this as I personally would be able to achieve faster results in Excel rather than with multiple copies and exports.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 19, 2001 at 1:18 pm #547669Excel? Integration? Who would have thunk it! Excel’s a good idea. Or, if you have Access 2000 and a reasonable comfort level with it, you can link a table to Outlook objects and manipulate them that way. This gives some powerful query capability. It can be confusing because you’re looking at the raw data. And you probably don’t want to write back into Outlook. But it is an option.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 19, 2001 at 2:28 pm #547699Thanx for reminding me, that although I can’t filter on rows, I can filter on fields (columns) using the field mapping – I just tried it
excel is mostly fine and I have a fair comfort level with it.
I do have one major problem with excel and the way it interacts with contacts: two fields: (1) business address, and (2) business street address. These fields have embedded carriage returns and/or line feeds and these drive me crazy when using them in excel. They do not “copy and paste” intuitively and they do not export to excel intuitively. I find that exporting to acsv field and then converting the csv to an excel file works better, but this is a pain in the neck.
