HI All,

I have had a continual problem in using Access 2000 “find”. Find defaults to the name of the database and will “find” Nada!, however, when I click on the down arrow it shows the field name (i.e. Course Name) and if I click on that then find will !Find!

You would think that it would “find” even though it was not on the “course name” field (at least I would) and “yes” I have checked all the options and changed back and forth a couple of time to see if I could fix it. It is just an annoyance but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you talking about launching the find dialog on a form by clicking a button, a menu item, running a macro, or what? I’ve never seen it default to the name of the database, although it will default to a form name if the focus wasn’t on a field before I clicked a find button.

Thanks for responding. When I am in Form and click on the find icon it comes up with the name of the data base in the Look In: box. Even if I click on the field (i.e. Course Name) before clicking on the Find button it still comes up as the data base name.

Now, along with that this doesn’t happen in all my data bases, go figure. I think there may be a problem in the control box but I don’t know how to get to the one for “find”

It sounds like your form might be corrupted. Is this find button on the form or on the menubar? If it’s on a built-in menubar, you’ve definitely got a problem. If the menubar is a custom job or your have a find button on your form, you may be able to fix it with a little code that uses the screen.previouscontrol method to set the focus back to the previous control before executing the find.

Well, not it’s not a special form, it is one I did myself. However, this does happens from the menu bar. Besides, it works sometimes in a different form in the same database. It really is just an annoyance. Do you think it is more serious than that?

You might try adding a set.focus statement, this sets focus on the control you wish to search before Find opens.
