• Find not finding fonts in Fonts folder

    Have NT4 (SP6a).
If via Windows Explorer I open the folder %SystemRoot%Fonts, I see all of the 298 installed fonts there. Almost all of them are TrueType fonts of extension ttf. However, if I do a search for all TrueType font files via
    Find > *.ttf
the result is only a short list of files in the folder $NtServicePackUninstall$.

Does anyone else observe this too ?

Note — the Fonts folder nor any of the font files within it are checked as hidden.

I have no problems searching for (and finding) ttf files in the %systemroot%fonts directory.

As always it begets the question, how are you logging in? Do you have administrative privileges?

Yep. I always log on as Administrator. The Fonts directory has Administrator set for Full Control, and for each of the files in it I see that same permission.

Surprisingly, I discovered that the old utility named File Manager (winfile.exe) can find the .ttf files in the Fonts folder. I simply set it to be looking in drive-C, then File > Search > Search for: *.ttf > OK.

This is further proof that my Find utility is not functioning dependably.

Ouch, I had a very similar problem in Windows 2000. Except that there, it Dr. Watson on me.

Can you go to a command prompt and get results typing in DIR C:WINNTFONTS? Perhaps some flaky GUI problem, even though that doesn’t solve anything it may give a clue. System level, or GUI level.

Thanks for trying to help, Mark. The command DIR C:WINNTFONTS does in fact return the complete list of all the .ttf files in that folder.

            Hmm…
