My Firefox version 33 has started as of a few days ago loading some pages very slowly. Some, for instance, http://www.banjohangout.org, Facebook, load fine; others such as http://www.zdnet.com/shellshock-how-to-protect-your-unix-linux-and-mac-servers-7000034072/?s_cid=e539&ttag=e539&ftag=TRE17cfd61 load very slowly. At the bottom left is the notice “looking up cdn.optimizely.com” & “s.yimg.com” while loading this page. Other pages have similar sites. I have no idea what these are (probably ads) & I think they appear even when loading normally but they go by so fast I don’t even notice them. I’ve got a fast 6-core computer & 35 Mbs cable access & it used to load all pages fast.

This started about the same time as Thunderbird quit sending e-mails & I posted in the other e-mails forum about that. Other than these two problems, everything works correctly. Any suggestions?

    Thanks…

    Tried s.ying.com and got this:

    Yahoo Logo
    Will be right back…

    Thank you for your patience.

Our engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue.

I wonder if this is part of the problem but they should have solved this already…

I can’t tell you why. I can say those 2 sites are familiar to me because NoScript blocks them by default, I believe content from those sites are gathered via javascript.

Not sure what NoScript is. Could you tell me about NoScript? I wonder if I shut off java, this annoying behavior will stop. Thanks…

NoScript is a must have addon for Firefox, IMHO. It blocks javascript and a few other potential problem causing behaviors. Shutting off Java should not hurt if you don’t need it. Mine is disabled.
As for the slow down, any thing new on your computer? Actually 33 is pretty new, do you have any addons active? If so try running with none. I tend to a suspect a flakey AntiVirus update when this happens to me and goes away in a few days.

I loaded NoScript on my computer but I didn’t like what it was doing. I deleted Firefox completely then did a fresh install of 33.0.2 with my saved profile. (I had removed all my add-ons as well) It still is taking a long time (sometimes as much as a minute or two to load a page) & says things like “transferring data from platform.twitter.com” or “from cdn.syndication.twitter.com”. I will run a couple malware detectors again but this seems ridiculous because it never used to do this. I have a very fast computer & 35 Mbs cable internet. Anybody have any more suggestions?
