Firefox- No Script: allow a Forbid site (Firefox 2)

Evening –

Noscript – How do you allow a “Forbid” site?

I don’t know what I clicked, but whatever it was, I got myself in trouble when signing in to AOL.

When I try to sign on to Aol, I see in status bar “myscreenname.aol.com” and when I hover over it “Authenticated by Equifax.”

The right-click menu shows the S encircled with red and “Forbid AOL.com.”

“Untrusted” shows 3 aol sites. I have right/left-clicked them, but don’t get any option to allow/trust them.

I have uninstalled NoScript and installed in again, but these Forbid/Untrusted are still active for AOL.

The NoScript forum says “Just reopen the Untrusted menu (on the same page as before) and you’ll find the Allow good-site.com command there.” I don’t know what that means – “on the same page as before.” I don’t know how to navigate to that site….

Under Whitelist, aol.com is listed…

Thanks for any hints on how to get myself out of this mess.

Hi, I’ve found the easiest way to use Noscript is to Right-Click the icon in the status bar when on a page. This usually offers a chance to change the settings for a site and even to allow all scripting from all sites (marked as dangerous). I surf with No Script fully on, I think it is important to be careful of Flash. I may temporarily allow a site if I want to use something (eg watch a video at Youtube) but there are very few sites I will allow on a permanent basis.

I THINK my confusion is due to toggle options: when Options say a site is Allowed and you hover over it, you’re told “Scripts Currently Forbidden.” So, is that site Allowed/Forbidden?.
When Options say a site is Untrusted (S encircled with red and a slash mark), you have the option of Mark (name) as Untrusted.

I realize this is basic and I have done searches for a tutorial on this, but I can’t find anything relevant to my lack of understanding.

Also, Chris, you say “I surf with No Script fully on.” Do you mean you allow scripts globally?

Hi again, I’ve uploaded a screenshot to show the settings I use. I never allow scripts globally – one may as well disable or uninstall the extension. The only thing I allow is iframes and I’m even having second thoughts about that. With the settings I have got it means that sometimes the functionality of a website is broken. If there is something I want to do, for example clicking a button doesn’t work as expected I right-click the Noscript Icon to see what sites are there that can be allowed. Some sites require javascript to navigate properly and if so I weigh up whether the information I want is worth the potential risk of allowing scripting. Often it’s just as easy to find information elsewhere. My policy is to allow the bare minimum when surfing. I hardly ever hover my cursor over the Noscript Icon. What this does, I think, is show a list of scripts that are being blocked. If it says scripts Forbidden that means the site is blocked. When a site is completely blocked the S icon has the red no entry sign over the top of it. When a site is being trusted the no entry sign disappears. I think there are three states:

Trusted:
Untrusted
Blocked

The additional options for trusted and untrusted can be set in advanced. When visiting a site for the first time it is blocked. Right-clicking the icon allows you to temporarily trust the site, trust the site or mark it as untrusted. If it is allowed the Untrusted option disappears. If the site is disallowed the untrusted option then comes back. I haven’t used the untrusted option much. Clicking on that icon will allow you to reset the trust level for sites on that page. It seems to me one has access to the most options via -right click when a site is not trusted which is the default setting. Hope this makes sense. I agree its not the most intuitive of programs.
