A client ungroups an object and this inserts a blank line above the text line. She thinks it is due to needing the “Float Over Text” check mark removed but on the Properties Menu, Format Object, the Float Over Text option is grayed out.

Is this a possible cause for the behavior of the document and what are the ways to “unprotect” the menu and remove the “float over text” check mark?

    Thanks,

    David

I’m not sure what is happening. Do you think you could upload the file as a post attachment & we can look at it?
      Cheers,

I am trying to get this doc down to below the size limit. If I do I shall post.

Here is a cut down version of the file. On most of our machines running 95 OSR2 with Office 97 SP2 the issue does not appear but on this client’s PC the blank row pops up when the “llights” are highlighted and “grouping” “ungroup” is selected.

Well, I’m not positive what you mean by inserts a blank line. I have Word 2000. If I change the wrapping style to something other than in front of or behind text, then the table will split to accommodate the object. But this doesn’t have to do with grouping or ungrouping. Doing either of those doesn’t insert any “blank lines”.

Don’t know if this is helpful or not but it appears that the objects are anchored to the column ‘active start date’. I’m not sure just where the blank line was to be inserted but if you move the anchor to the cell just before that in which the objects appears you are able to enter the blank line. . The object’s layout is ‘in front of text’ , horizontal alignment is ‘other’. I changed it to ‘tight’ and it seemed to then anchor to the paragraph mark in its own cell. However I’m running Ofc & Win XP and no longer have Word 97 to check it out thoroughly but I can’t see a lot of differences between the drawing toolbar in ’97 and 2002.

Select the object, cut it and then use Paste Special to put it back in. Try different format options to see what you come up with. If you change the format to Picture then you should be able to then right click the object (Now a picture), select Format Picture and change it to Inline with text rather than floating.
