Folders open in search?

Help! I’m setting up a new Windows XP machine and I seem to have set up windows explorer so that when I double click on a new folder it defaults to searching that folder instead of opening the folder and displaying it’s contents. I looked through folder options and restored everything to default but that didn’t change anything. What did I do wrong and how can I undo it?
