    Folders Shared with me are syncing as internet shortcut in OneDrive on Windows PC

    Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess..

    Hello PradeepSG,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

    From your description, sorry to hear that you have experienced some issues with OneDrive shared folders. Recently we have received a lot of reports similar to yours and have confirmed this problem is related to a bug in OneDrive sharing folder feature. For now, unfortunately, we have to say there’s no workaround yet…

    * Still not fixed.

      Experiencing same issue.

      The reason you are facing the issue is because, the folder was shared from a migrated onedrive user.
      If u see old UI window while sharing a file/folder from 1drive website, then you are not a migrated user.
      If you see a modern and stylish window while sharing a file/folder from 1drive website, then you are a migrated user.

      I’ve multiple accounts and when I shared a folder from the account with modern looking sharing window, i face the Internet Shortcut issue on my other account.

        Still an ongoing issue for me as well. I heard they might be moving features to the paid subscription onedrive, maybe they messed with sharing features and now it isnt working.

      Same issue. Major problem for me. I don’t understand the migrate comment. I use the family plan to share a main file folder with everyone in the family. How can I make sure all are migrated?

      Hello, Reception Skyway Park

      Welcome to Microsoft Community.

      This appears to be a known issue currently affecting OneDrive shared folders. Users from different regions have reported the same issue beginning approximately June 2024. We’ve summarized the main points of our current situation in this issue, you can review them at your convenience:

      1-> Impact Summary:

      Many customers worldwide have reported that their OneDrive shared folders have become inaccessible as regular file folders in File Explorer and instead appear as internet shortcuts…

      2-> Latest Update:

      This issue may be due to an internal error affecting data synchronization and handling within the OneDrive service. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and is actively working on a resolution…

      Same problem with OneDrive here. Shared folders became internet shortcuts! The online app does not give you the option to download the online folders as proper desktop folders in desktop OneDrive. Any solutions available?

      Where am I? What am I doing in this hand basket?

      Microsoft finally has update on OneDrive shared folders turning to internet shortcut links

      ..It has nearly been ten months with no fix in sight still for the issue. However, Microsoft finally has another update on it thanks to a response from the Microsoft OneDrive product group, and it is supposedly due to a backend migration issue that the tech giant is currently still performing…However, it does not give any specific clue as to when this migration phase will be completed, though Microsoft is trying to “speed things up”..

      “This is related to a backend migration we are currently doing. Unfortunately, we do not fully support syncing shared folders when one user has migrated and the other has not . We are doing everything possible to speed things up so that the issue can be resolved as quickly as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is an automatic logic that ensures that they return to a synced folder within a few days”….

        Can you tell us the source of the update from Microsoft.

        Seems like a strange “update” on a problem that is several months old.

        Anybody know how to determine whether a user is “migrated” or not?
