A little while back, for no particular reason, some of the web pages I was browsing showed up in larger than normal type size. The type size in the View menu is set at normal. When I set the type size as smaller, it then appears “normal.” This has also started happening with some mail in outlook. I’m using Outlook 2000, IE 5.5 and Windows 2000. Any ideas?

This may or may not be what happened but there’s a little known trick that can do this: if you hold the CTRL key down while using a wheel mouse, Internet Explorer will adjust the font size. This should change the setting in the View -> Font Size menu as well.

Since Outlook uses IE as its engine for displaying HTML mail, the settings in IE are carried over (this is also true for working offline).

Thanks for the post. While that wasn’t the issue (believe it or not, I don’t even have a wheel mouse!), your post got me thinking that I must have changed a setting in IE. It turned out that I had clicked “ignore font sizes” in the accessibility panel in Internet Options. Didn’t even realize that I had done it, but that seems to have been the problem

Get yourself a wheel mouse – they’re inexpensive (you don’t have to go for an Intellipoint). Probably the single most important factor in productivity increase. You’ll wonder how you did without it.

Actually, *I* found a touchpad to be superior even to a wheel mouse. But I guess that is why peripheral manufacturers can produce so many different products — different folk, different preferences.

Personally, I’m waiting for a cordless optical mouse, but I ain’t holding my breath.

Going by the current rating on my optical, and typical capacity ratings of decent batteries, you’d get about 30 hours use out of 3 x AA batteries.
There are certain methods of remotely recharging batteries but with todays technology and prices, I certainly wouldn’t hold my breath…..
