    Hi

My Windows fonts have gone all funny! When I booted up my PC today all of my taskbar, Windows menus, headers in apps, etc. are all showing Wingdings-type fonts. See screenshot below as an example (which also shows what winver I’m on).

I’ve run reg query “hklm\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\fonts” from the command line, which gives an empty result.

Wondering whether my running HD Cleaner yesterday did anything, as I did ask it to clean up the registry? I did take a registry backup before I did it, but because the HD Cleaner menus are all in Wingdings too, I can’t do a registry restore. Catch-22!

Can anyone help me, please? If you need any more info, please ask. I am at a loss!

UPDATE: from searching the web again, I think the font being displayed is Marlett.  The Font page in (new) Settings shows only Arial, Marlett and Segoe UI are installed, though my C:\Windows\Fonts folder contains the usual hundreds (I can still get into Powershell via Win+X and guessing which menu item is Powershell!)

    Many thanks

    Rob

      Phew – success!

Having tried the usual DCIM/SFC things, I was at a loss to know what to do. Then I found a website that has three font restore *.reg files, and I realised that even though Explorer was gibberish I could still see my Sync icon. So I downloaded them into Sync on my good laptop, logged into my admin account on my corrupted PC, ran each of them, restarted, and all was well.

I was worried I was going to have to end up doing a Reset PC, which I really didn’t want to do unless I had to. Anyway, all’s well that ends well, as they say!
